April 2025 Update: 5000 Subscriber Youtube Milestone

Woah, 5000 subscribers now on the Greg’s Maker Corner Youtube channel! I’d like to thank everyone of my subscribers, sponsors, twitter/ X followers who have helped me achieve this exciting milestone.

Reflecting Back

It has been a great journey, and I thought I’d take an opportunity to reflect back on my channel- and also where I see things going.

  • I published the first video on June 28th of 2019. The video was “Hands on with the Palette 2” which was the first multi-color filament system that I’ve ever tried. Interestingly enough, my most recent video series is on the LDO BoxTurtle, also a multi-color filament system!
  • For a brief period of time, I had a cheesy intro song for my videos, which was probably not helping contribute to my channel growth. 🙂  I have thoughts on adding a quick little riff for future videos that will be way less annoying.
  • In the early days of my channel, I started narrowing down to in-depth build tutorials. My initial projects were: Hypercube Evolution, JJRobots SCARA arm, and some small but simple projects from a company called “Just Add Filament”. Some of the first build projects are no longer supported anymore, but they helped me get my start and figure out my approach to content creation on Youtube.
  • In the summer of 2021, I decided to take on an ambitious project, and began my Voron 0.1 series. At the time, there weren’t any Voron 0.1 build videos, and the Voron 0.1 had just been release a few moths prior. This was a time where most folks were self-sourcing, and the V0 serial numbers were roughly in the 300-400 range. Fortunately, while asking around in the Voron Discord, I found a user who was helping create self-sourced kits (Raven Mech) with good quality components, and purchased. I had a great experience building and published all my videos in a playlist. I would like specifically like to thank the Voron Design Team for the AMAZING printer designs, documentation, and folks in the discord that make the project what it is today.
  • Not too long after that series, my first big milestone was meeting the Youtube monetization requirements. I hit the 1000 subscriber mark on Friday, October 8th, 2021. About a month later, I hit the 4000 watched hours metric and began monetizing my videos. This was a big encouragement to keep going.
  • Over the next few years, I worked hard and made adjustments based on feedback from viewers and supporters- framing up shots better, more stable shots, screen capture instead of filming the screen, making subtitles more visible, creating better thumbnails, etc. I also took the proceeds from my channel to invest in a few small things- better audio, lighting, a new camera for longer shots, and of course, projects for my channel. I hit around 3,000 subscribers in August of 2023.
  • The 3d Printing Community Is Awesome. I’ve met some amazing individuals along that have been passionate about supporting my channel. Several have donated much appreciated $$’s to help encourage me and thank me for my efforts. My top supporters have even purchased and sent me printer kits or components! These individual supporters have also given me ideas for future projects and content, and connected me with sponsors, I REALLY appreciate it, and this has greatly benefited my growth.
  • Where would I be without my Sponsors? I would not be able to do half the projects I’ve shown on my channel without the company sponsorships and individuals I have met through them. Jason from LDO Motors, Eric from Provok3d, Emma at Siboor, Daniel at West3d have all contributed significantly. Here is a full listTHANK YOU!
  • While most of my connection to the 3d printing community is on-line, I have been attending the Midwest RepRap Festival (MRRF) for quite some time, and have been to Rapic+TCT when it’s near by in Detroit. Through these in-person events, I’ve met some fantastic people and reinforced connections, which has led to other collaborations, live streaming, etc. You can read more about it on the “Greg’s Maker Corner Adventures” section. THANK YOU to everyone that has invited me to their streams for collaborations and given me tips and encouragement. I treasure these friendships and am very thankful.
  • My channel growth slowed a bit in the second half of 2024, as the world continued to change as things began to go “back to normal” post Covid. But sometimes it is good and necessary to take a bit of a break and recharge. In early 2025, Jason from LDO reached out to me about the Box Turtle, and that’s where my latest content has come from leading up to this point. Thank you Jason!

Looking Forward

So what’s next? I really enjoy making content, and build tutorial videos has become one of my niche areas. Folks frequently tell me they appreciate that I get straight to the point, don’t have a lot of “fluff” and don’t push products/sales/affiliate links. Many builds are done by amazing Youtubers on live streams, which are great during the stream, but can be challenging to find specific information and typically require searching 3-4 hours of content. When I am creating build videos, my goal is to create content that is easy to find and consume. Builds are fun, but there are also other topics in 3D Printing or Making related content that I have planned.

Primary Goals. As a hobbyist content creator, generating $$’s and bringing in more subscribers encourages me to keep going, and I wouldn’t be putting the effort if those metrics weren’t growing. However, my primary goal is to engage with the community by creating content around my interests and passions. I like to take on projects that are early in the life cycle and aren’t oversaturated. My current content has been mostly 3d printing focused, but from a “making” perspective I also enjoy electronics, laser cutting, and leather working. I may incorporate some of these topics into future content but I know that from a Youtube perspective, it’s best to focus on a niche- so if I do bring these in, there will most likely be 3d printing content overlap. For example, one of my project ideas is to create content on 3d printed guitar pedals, which combines 3d printing and electronics.

Incremental Improvements and future content. I recently purchased a new DJI lavaliere microphone and will be incorporating that into future videos, as I know my audio could be better. For future content, I regularly review my Youtube metrics, which helps me understand content that resonates with my viewers. Multi material/filament color seems to be a hot topic, so I plan to continue creating content around that. I would like to get my hands on the Bondtech INDX that I saw at Rapid+TCT this past week, though it’s not set to release until November. New printer builds are always an interest, and I plan to continue to do those as well. One of my subscribers asked me how Rat Rig’s are compared to Voron’s- I’ve never built one, so it’s hard to say. If a company or individual would like to sponsor a kit, please contact me! 🙂

Have a project idea? If you are a supporter and sponsor and have an idea- evaluate a new technology, unbox and build your kit, collaborate, etc. the best way to connect with me is on twitter/X or Discord. For twitter/X if I am not following you, send me a public tweet and I will follow you and we can exchange direct messages or e-mails. If you prefer Discord, reach me there by sending a DM- my username is gregsmakercorner. I do plan on getting a web form on this site set up for inquiries and will do that at some point in the near future.
