October 2026 Update

Where Has Greg Been? Life Updates, Leatherworking, and What’s Next

It’s been a while since my last post! You may have been wondering where I’ve been and what I’ve been up to. Well, it’s certainly been an eventful year, so I thought I’d share a quick update.

A Few Life Updates

  • An unexpected career change. In November 2025, shortly after my last blog post, I unexpectedly found myself looking for a new job. Fortunately, I was able to land a new position with a local IT consulting firm in January 2026. As anyone who’s experienced an unexpected job loss or started a new role knows, it takes some time to adjust. Thankfully, it’s turned out to be a very positive change professionally.
  • A little more leatherworking. During that transition, I spent quite a bit of time in my workshop making leather journals, wallets, and other small projects. I shared some of these creations on X (formerly Twitter), and I was genuinely appreciative of all the encouragement and positive feedback. Several folks even purchased some of my handmade goods, which was a nice surprise. Thank you to everyone who supported me!
  • Learning, adapting, and embracing AI. Since starting my new role, I’ve invested considerable time learning more about AI and how it’s changing the technology landscape. In some ways, I’ve been reinventing myself professionally, exploring new tools, technologies, and ways of working. It’s been an interesting and rewarding journey, but it has definitely taken a fair amount of my available time and energy.

So, What’s Next for Greg’s Maker Corner?

My love of making things hasn’t changed one bit! What has changed is the amount of time I’ve had available to document projects, create videos, and write blog posts.

I’m hoping to change that over the upcoming holiday season, when I should have a little more time in the workshop.

I’ve got quite a few projects I’d like to tackle, including:

  • 3D Printing: Some upgrades to my VzBot, including adding a Cartographer probe.
  • Electronics: An interesting 256-LED matrix project I’ve been wanting to experiment with.
  • Leatherworking: More handmade journals, wallets, guitar accessories, and other projects, along with some of the tools and techniques I’ve been using.

Speaking of leatherworking, I’ve recently added a dedicated Leatherworking section to Greg’s Maker Corner. It’s a place where I can share my projects, materials, tools, and techniques, including how I combine traditional leathercraft with modern maker technology like laser cutting and digital design. I also have a link there to my eBay listings, where I offer some of my handmade creations for sale.

Thanks for following along, and thanks especially to everyone who has continued to encourage and support my projects over the years. I’m looking forward to spending more time making things and sharing the journey!
